AUGUST NEWS

Greetings All,

We're half way through summer, and man it's been hot… but so not hot enough to stop the rock!

*** Guest Hosts at our Open Mics

Thanks in advance to those who are covering the hosting duties for me when I can't make it.

Mon. Aug 5th at Porter Belly's. Leandro and Steve Duo tag team the night.

Wed. Aug 7th at Ward 4. Abe Dewing and Leandro Alonso at the helm.

...and special thanks to Thom Griffin for hosting in July.

*** The Porch in Medford

Sad news folks, the Porch Southern Fare and Juke Joint in Medford, which survived Covid, has closed its doors. They brought such awesome music to the Greater Boston music scene, along with yummy bbq, and chill atmosphere. A sincere thank you to the fine people of the Porch. Best of luck on your next adventures. You will be sorely missed.

*** Melrose Farmers Market Gig Opportunity.

The market had a cancellation and asked if I could help get it filled. If you're interested in performing on Thurs., Aug 8th from 4-6pm, $90, please read through the details in the link below, and if you're still interested, continue to sign your self up. I imagine the slot will get filled fast. They do have non-paid openings in October so if you're interested in just playing for free or some tips, let me know and I'll get you more info.

*** Old Vienna Kaffeehaus Reunion

August 17th, 1-9pm

Hopkinton, MA

Here's something really cool for fans of open mics, like us! From 1986 - 1996, there was a great open mic in Westborough, MA. Many now successful artists spent time honing their skills there including Jim Infantino, Peter Mulvey and Grammy-winning country songwriter Lori McKenna. The line up for this event, hosted by Barbara Kessler, is unreal. If you're interested in attending or reading more, follow the link below.

> ALBUM RELEASE

*** Horse and Rider by The Almighty Buck

Folks, after enormous frustration and delay, I'm happy to announce I've finally got my band's first album, "Horse and Rider" onto Spotify. The album was released in the early 2000's and technically sent to streaming services, but all that tech was infant, and H&R never got connected properly. I knew it'd take a long time to figure out, but in all honesty, it took about 2 hours of focus, research, and a month of waiting for it to process. (it's not easy to work alone, and procrastination is the thief of time). What can I say about this album? After a successful group/college band, The Almighty Buck was my first effort 'leading' a band as songwriter, guitarist and singer. On the album, I can hear my youth in it all, but still enjoy revisiting. These were the New York City days, pre 9/11. I was blessed to have such heavily talented members at the core. Ricardo Ortiz on bass, Jesse Wallace and Matt Brundrett exchanging duties on drum kit and percussion, and both on kit for the last song called "The Finest Fruit". Dear NYC/college friends added in wonderful ear candy... Bethany Brooks sang so sweet on 4 tunes, Jay Samiagio on sax & flute, Lorenda Robinson brings such soul to the soulful song, "Make Time", Milton Ruiz plays lead guitar on 2 tracks, plus recorded and mixed the dang thing, Gordo Wallace on dog bark, Pop Pop Kochanski on jaw harp, harmonica & laugh, and incoming member, Doug Cote on banjo. I'll forever be grateful to these musician friends for their love and musicality. My favorite part of the album is its listening strength. It is meant to be listened beginning to end as a full album flow, rather than just a bunch of singles bundled together as is the trend these days. Hope you enjoy!
